How does the Phrase “Rise and Shine” Impact Your Life?

Two things that have had a huge positive impact on me throughout my life would be the phrase “Rise and Shine” and any image of a Rising Sun. I’ve utilized that phrase and that image to propel my life in a positive direction each day and amplify the joy I’m able to experience with everything that occurs throughout the day. It’s been so powerful for my life that I want to share the how and the why with you in hopes that you will also embrace these two powerful thought processes and make them a part of how you start each day.

When I was a young adult, I began to notice a unique consistency in my personal psyche. Every time I witnessed a sunrise, the emotions of hope, inspiration, motivation, encouragement, belief in myself, and belief in the world seemed to blossom into a positive view of the day ahead. As time went on, I found that even seeing a picture of a sunrise had an immediate similar positive impact on my perception of how my day was turning out. The impact became so powerful in my life that I incorporated the rising sun into my company’s logo and added the tagline “Rising Beyond Expectations” underneath it.

Every day that new logo came into my line of vision dozens of times and so did the positive emotions that it carried. It made me better. It made the people I worked alongside better. It helped us hold ourselves accountable to living a life that provided evidence each day that we really were attempting to Rise Beyond Expectations in all that we did. It also had the added bonus of transforming the way we viewed and lived our lives each day when the workday was done because it was one of the positive things that had “carry-over” value. I began to have a clearer vision as to “HOW” our logo could have a positive impact on the lives of those of us that worked at our business with hopes that at least some of that transferred to the people we served, our valued customers.

The perspective I had on how the image of a rising sun was impacting my life in a positive way was amplified while I was at a Bob Evans restaurant and noticed one of their entrée’s was entitled “Rise and Shine.” I found myself ordering it not because of what it offered to eat, but because of how the name of that entrée made me feel just by seeing it on the menu. It was then that I decided to adopt the phrase “Rise and Shine” and implement it each day into my morning routine of preparing for the day ahead. Crazy? Maybe, but I found a way to make it work as a positive enhancement that I could start the day with and, further, utilize throughout the day whenever I wanted to boost my attitude and drive to make each day a great one.

The phrase “Rise and Shine” became an opportunity to inject positive mojo into other people’s day with little effort. For example, greeting my fellow teammates in the morning gave me the opportunity to ask them how their Rise and Shine was going so far. Throughout the day, you could hear teammates saying “Rise and Shine” to each other versus the “Hey” that is so commonly used today. All of us related it to our logo and tagline “Rising Beyond Expectations” and a soft, mostly hidden question of how’s it really going for you personally this day so far. If someone was riding the “struggle bus” that day, they were much more willing to respond with an honest answer to “How’s your rise and shine going so far” versus the standard “What’s wrong?”.  “Rise and Shine” offered a more sincere, hopeful, compassionate, and caring form of communication. That became the “WHY” to its usage.

What could the image of a rising sun mean to YOUR life? Plenty, if you’ll plant the image, and all the positive emotions it offers, in the forefront of your mind at the start of each day. How might each day for the rest of your life improve if you began by looking in the mirror and said out loud “Rise and Shine” while embracing all that the phrase could mean for how the rest of your day will proceed? Super plenty! It’s okay if you need to wait until after you’ve had your first cup of coffee to be able to say it and mean it. What you’ll discover if you embrace the image of a rising sun, and tell yourself to Rise and Shine each day, is that you have untapped potential that can lead to the life you’ve always dreamed of having. Hey…I Believe In YOU! So, Rise and Shine! and GiddyUp!!
